Sea transportation – Abbreviations

AI – All Inclusive (all costs included)

BAF – Bunker Adjustment /factor (an adjustment in shipping charges to offset price fluctuations in the cost of fuel)

CAF – Currency Adjustment Factor (a surcharge on freight charges by a carrier to offset foreign currency fluctuations)

CFS Charge – Container Freight Station Charge (the charge assessed for services performed at the origin or destination for loading or unloading of cargo into/from containers at a CFS.

CGS – Congestion Surcharge

CSF – Container Security Fee

CSS - Carrier Security Surcharge

Diversion Charge – fee for diverting cargo from original intended destination port to a new location

FAS – Fuel Additional Surcharge

GRI – General Rate Increase

ISPS – International Security Port Charge

OWS – Over Weight Surcharge (when the cargo is heavier than the weight allowed)

PSS – Peak season surcharge

SEQ – Special Equipment Surcharge (applicable to any inland haulage which requires special equipment)

THC – Terminal Handling Charges

TRS – Siscarga usage fee

TSC – Terminal Security Surcharge (part of ISPS)
